Literature Text

A presence lingers in my head,
there’s a tiger in my bed.
Captivating eyes of sun-swept fire,
he asks of me my deepest desire.

Drawn to him by what he implies,
I stare into his bewitching eyes.
Filled with fear, yet I understand
his intentions are truly grand.

Gravitating toward his presence,
I slowly move with some hesitance
Instinctively, he reaches for me,
and so starts our incredible journey.

Joy fills my soul more than I could hope,
seeing the universe’s kaleidoscope.
Love is a precious wonder to find,
sustenance for the soul, body, and mind.

Many adventures he takes me through,
every time experiencing something new.
Our cerebral escapades wholly astound,
my mind becoming our personal playground.

Precious moments spent unseen,
he treats me as if I were his queen.
Relishing in all, I am truly enchanted
by every moment his mental art sculpted.

Simply mesmerized by what he can do,
his offer to me, I eagerly agree to.
Understanding the depths of the cost now,
we seal the bond with an unbreakable vow.

Vespers glow brightly as I draw him closer
and holding him tightly, I then whisper,
“Xenon noble, steadfast and true,
I am eternally in love with you.”

Yearning ardently to return back,
we shall play forever along the zodiac.

My Alphabrachic Verse for the 2016 Amazing Alphabetic April hosted by :iconprojectdfc:.  I had this started at least a week ago, but the poem kept stalling, so after hours over a few days to hammer it out, Im declaring it done.  Another poem inspired by dreams, but at least unlike the last one, not from nightmares.  For the poem itself, I decided to rhyme once I had the first two lines pop into my head (which caused quite an amused laugh, but I digress), even though rhyming is not a requirement of the form.

The Alphabrachic Verse is an alphabetic form created by :icondragonschest: that consists of eight quatrains with a concluding couplet.  For the general alphabetic requirement, subsequent letters of the alphabet are the first letters in the first and last words in alternating fashion in subsequent lines, i.e., the first line begins with an “a” word, the second line ends with a “b” word, etc, all the way through to the couplet beginning with a “y” word and ending with a “z” word.  The trick comes in the repetition of letters: the starting letter of the last word in the fourth line in a stanza also becomes the requirement for the starting letter of the first word in the next stanza’s first line, i.e., for the first stanza, the final line must have its final word start with a “d” and the first word of the first line of the second stanza also must begin with a “d”.  In the end, all the letters that are doubled up are “d”, “g”, “j”, “m”, “p”, “s”, “v”, & “y”.

Alphabetic Fun Facts: Vespers was a word pulled from my dictionary.  Im going with the old poetic meaning of evening stars in this case for clarification purposes.  Xenon, the latest X word to play in my poetry, is one of the noble gases of the periodic table of the elements.  I originally was seeking to draw that allusion out and emphasizing it with stating noble after it because I thought it was too vague, however, a tiny bit more digging led to another happy accident, for xenon is derived from the Greek term for stranger, which in this context, can allude to foreign or even alien, which any of those terms fit well for the meaning I intended, but of course, as always, can end up meaning something different to every reader.
