Hello everyone! OneWithTheStars here for @ProjectDFC and welcome to the 2020 edition of Rondeaux in Juillet!

(I am stunned speechless that group journals FINALLY have a "save as draft" feature so you don't have to spend hours in one shot at the time to post to craft it! The best part is, I tried it just now and went back in and it WORKS. One step back toward the functionality we once had... :faint: )

Rondeaux in Juillet (RIJ)

(OMG, center alignment is back! :squee: )

(Ahem, too many personal excitement bursts there... Eclipse has a long way to go, but hooray for some covertly implemented, much-needed reinstatements of function to journals at least with the hopes of many more to come...)

ProjectDFC was defined by its love for poetic forms. And not just the forms that many of us are accustomed to seeing, but trying to grasp various forms from around the world for the exposure to the many different ones various regions have to offer as well as try our hands at them, even when our native languages/structures may not flow as well as the traditional languages they herald from. The goal is a literary adventure across the planet and I hope everyone can enjoy that spirit.

One of the regions that made it into the monthly collection of challenges we hold annually is what is before you all today—Rondeaux in Julliet. The Rondeau originated in France and in that spirit, we have selected various forms of the rondeau family for your hand to try. The basic elements that are usually found throughout any form in the rondeau family are repetition of phrases/lines and a specific rhyme scheme.

Rondeau Family Poetic Forms:

:bulletred: Rondeau

:bulletorange: Rondeau Prime

:bulletyellow: Rondeau Redoublé

:bulletgreen: Rondel

:bulletblue: Rondelet

:bulletpurple: Rondine

The Forms in Detail

Rondeau

The Rondeau is a repetitive form that consists of fifteen lines separated into a quintain, a quatrain, and concluded with a sixain. All lines consist of eight syllables save the ninth and fifteenth lines which are a four-syllable refrain of the first four syllables in the first line. The English version is generally written in iambic (u S) meter. Only two end rhyming sounds are used throughout the poem while the refrain does not rhyme with either, creating a structure of aabba | aabR | aabbaR, where R is the four-syllable refrain. The modern Rondeau is generally used for more serious verse compared to other poetic forms derived from the Rondeau family.

Some great examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

Rondeau Prime

The Rondeau Prime, part of the Rondeau family, is a repetitive form that is twelve lines in length separated into a septet followed by a quintet. Written in iambic (u S) meter, the lines are isosyllabic with no defined syllable length other than the refrained line is half the syllable count of a full line. The overall rhyme scheme is abbccbR | abbaR, where R is the first phrase from the first line.

Some lovely examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

Rondeau Redoublé

The Rondeau Redoublé, part of the Rondeau family, is a repetitive form consisting of twenty-five lines separated into five quatrains and concluded with a quintain and written in iambic (u S) pentameter with the exception of the last line. Two rhymes are seen throughout with a repetitive theme as the fourth line of the first four subsequent stanzas from the lines of the first stanza (A1, A2, B1, and B2). The final sixth stanza consists of a quintain with the refrain from the first phrase of the first line as the final line. The overall stanza scheme is A1B1A2B2 | babA1 | abaB1 | babA2 | abaB2 | babaR, where R is the aforementioned first phrase of the first line.

Some wonderful examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

Rondel

The Rondel, part of the Rondeau family, is a repetitive form that is usually written in iambic (u S) tetrameter, but the lines can be written in any other length of even syllables in iambic meter as long as it remains isosyllabic overall. The overall rhyme scheme is ABba | abAB | abbaA, where A and B are refrained lines. The French form generally has one of the rhymes as a masculine rhyme (stressed, long, or hard syllables) and the other as a feminine rhyme (unstressed, short, or soft syllables). To maintain the iambic mater, feminine ending (the addition of a final, unstressed syllable) can be applied.

Some amazing examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

Rondelet

The Rondelet, part of the Rondeau family, is a repetitive form that consists of a single stanza of seven lines with the syllable scheme of 4-8-4-8-8-8-4. It follows an overall rhyme scheme of AbAabbA, where A is a four-syllable refrain repeated in the first, third, and seventh lines.

Some fabulous examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

Rondine

The Rondine, part of the Rondeau family, is a repetitive form that is twelve lines separated into a quatrain, tercet, and concluding quintet. Written in iambic (u S) tetrameter, the refrained line is iambic dimeter, repeating the first four syllables of the first line. The overall rhyme scheme is abba | abR | abbaR, where R is the refrain.

Some beautiful examples written by our members from previous RIJs:

(I literally had this entire thing done--took two hours--and then realized I had created it in my personal journal writer and not the group one. :stare: I can't even copy and paste it from one to the other without a mass vomit of emojis mixed in with the text. That doesn't include all the things that DON'T transfer over. Eclipse, you still suck flaming charcoal nuggets and the separate literature and journal editors are collective, utter garbage). :onfire:

Hello everyone! OneWithTheStars here for @Prose-ject and welcome to the 2020 edition of Little Prose!

Little Prose (LP)

(Yeah, we still have no center alignment capabilities...)

July is National Flash Fiction Month, where many will continue the daily quest to write prose. Between our last month’s challenge of Prose-ject 2020 and NaFlaFicMo, those participating might feel a bit sick of prose writing. :faint:

But there’s good news! Little Prose serves as a bit of a breather! Born from the exhaustion of Prose-ject and with the simultaneous intention to begin ramping those up for the gauntlet that is known as National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), we’re keeping it simple here this month (but just you wait for the STORM series coming in the next months :evillaugh:). All you have to do is write a work with a minimum of 1000 words. No prompts, no conditions, no further limitations or requirements. Write a single one, or write several; the choice is yours. Tiger La la la la

Here are some examples from participants from 2019's LP:

Our RULES for PARTICIPATION:

:bulletblack: Please submit your entries to our Little Prose folder. Alternatively, you may note them to @kiwi-damnation, @OneWithTheStars, or the group @Prose-ject.

Hello, everyone! OneWithTheStars here for Prose-ject and while this is super late, I have tried super hard to navigate through the wreckage that is Eclipse to hopefully bring a great journal post for the namesake of Prose-ject to you all. Without further ado, I give you Prose-ject 2020.

PROSE-JECT 2020

(Still bummed I cannot center align anything in journals... )

Just what is the Prose-ject?  Well, it's a fun way of getting yourself to write every day for the month!  (Basically our version of Flash Fiction Month, which happens in July, but here at Prose-ject, we want to get you into the daily writing flow in preparation for our grand and glorious gauntlet coming up over the following months, working up the word counts to prepare those daring souls that partake in NaNoWriMo in November...or simply for those preferring the lighter word counts than 50k, so stay tuned for the upcoming STORMs).  We don't have a cap on the word count for the submissions, so push your daily writings as far as you'd like to take them and crush the standard Flash Fic word limit if you wish.

However, we do have a 250-word minimum for each work.  Writing something daily can be rather daunting; ideas don't always come freely.  No worries!  We're here to provide you with a few prompts each day to hopefully inspire you with an idea.  In past years, kiwi-damnation has put together an amazing set of five different forms of prompts for every day of the month.  This is where my delay in posting the journal has come in. With Eclipse, it is a LOT harder to craft huge journals and feature works and prompts. One has to create the journal through the group, which disables any ability to save drafts or to schedule posting, so it must all be crafted in one shot and when you wish to post it. Not good for a woman working in a hospital full-time during a pandemic and already mentally on the edge (this literally took me over six hours, and that didn't include all the prep time before the actual writing).

Featuring deviations is also harder with how the limited writer is set up (I still miss stash writer :crying:; I don't care what DA staff says, it was essential for both literature deviations and journal crafting) so instead of dragging and dropping links, everything must be favorited that isn't my own creation in order to place it in a journal. When I wish to add images for the word and quote prompts (or anything not in the same folder, whether it is my gallery, stash, or favorites), I must then go to edit each image gallery post to add them. So, I apologize profusely that nearly ten days into this daily challenge I am finally getting the journal posted.

I have tried to make up for my tardiness. This year, while I cannot provide the five various types of prompts, I have managed to give you four types! :dummy: We're all looking for a little stability in such unsettling times, so the quote prompts focus on famous quotes from various movies I hunted down and I hope that some if not many of them can be recognizable to the global community while providing a bit of nostalgia. :aww:

:shake sword:Requirements :shake sword:

:bulletblack: Each daily work must be a minimum of 250 words.

:bulletblack: Use one (or more) of the daily prompts provided.

:shake sword:Forms of Daily Prompts :shake sword:

:bulletblack: a word/phrase prompt

:bulletblack: a quote prompt

(This is like the third time I have started this journal, as something randomly glitches in Eclipse and it deletes what I typed and there's no saved draft in my stash). :nuu:

Hello! OneWithTheStars here and ready to rampage as I try in futility to craft a group journal in the wreckage of Eclipse. Anyway, welcome to ProjectDFC's 2020 installment of Jubilant Japanese June!

JUBILANT JAPANESE JUNE (JJJ)

ProjectDFC was defined on its love for poetic forms.

One of the regions that made it into the monthly collection of challenges we hold annually is what is before you all today--Jubilant Japanese June.  Forms we have highlighted in the past offer a unique change of pace due to language structure differences between Japanese (onji) and English (syllable) and while we generally equate the Japanese poetic structure heavily to English syllable counts, this is actually merely English interpretation based on those language structure differences.  Equally important in many Japanese forms is the conveyance of particular emotions while using certain imagery.  So, where we might feel that the English language fails in the syllable-count department for structure, we can at least try to emulate the imagery and emotions expressed.

Another unique feature of some Japanese forms is the collaboration of multiple poets on a given work.  We love the idea and each year, we strive to encourage it!  :squee: Unfortunately, due to my lack of time during a pandemic, I will not be able to coordinate the Renga this year; I just don't have much time and Eclipse isn't making it any easier for efficiency... I never even got the partially written Renga from 2019 posted. :ashamed: Anyone that wishes to partner up for a Mondo, you'll be on your own; again, I just don't have the time to coordinate.

Tier I: Solo Poetic Forms

:bulletred: Choka

:bulletorange: Dodoitsu

:bulletyellow: Haiku

:bulletgreen: Sedoka

:bulletblue: Senryu

:bulletpurple: Tanka

Tier II: Duo Poetic Forms

:bulletpink: Mondo

(Yay, I remembered the shortcuts for the colored bullets!) :dummy:

And now, for the forms in detail:

Choka

The Choka is a non-rhymed, narrative form that is minimally made up of a 5-7 syllable couplet and a concluding hanka that is thirty-one syllables broken down into the line scheme of 5-7-5-7-7. The 5-7 couplets preceding the summarizing hanka are unlimited.

Dodoitsu

The Dodoitsu is a form that consists of twenty-six syllables or less, usually structured into four lines of a 7-7-7-5 scheme with a subject matter generally focused on work or love, frequently with a touch of humor.

Haiku

The Haiku is a small, image-oriented form that mimics an utterance of breath and usually consists of three lines with the English equivalent syllable-driven for a 5-7-5 scheme. Usually about nature or tied to the seasons, the first line describes a setting in nature, including direct mention or symbol of a season, the second line expanding the image by switching to a surprise or contradicting image, and the third line relating to human condition relevant to the setting intended to be an epiphany to penetrate the heart of the theme. Balance is a focus, where repetition is avoided and punctuation eliminated.

Sedoka

The Sedoka is a form that consists of two stanzas of three lines in a 5-7-7 scheme. The stanzas should parallel one another.

Senryu

The Senryu is a small, image-oriented form that consists of seventeen syllables or less with the English equivalent syllable-driven, usually with a 5-7-5 scheme. It is usually structured with two lines of imagery followed by one line of enlightenment where the first line describes an image, the second adds either a conflicting image or expands the first image, and the final line provides an insightful moment, frequently with a juxtaposed image. The primary difference from a Haiku is the subject matter: Senryus focus on human nature, often through humor.

Tanka

The Tanka is a form comprised of thirty-one syllables structured into five lines with a 5-7-5-7-7 scheme. Generally, it contains personal and emotional expression surrounding typical themes of natural beauty, love, impermanence of life, activities of the common people, and separation. Concrete imagery is frequently employed to convey an awareness of transience of things and the bittersweet sadness embodied.

Mondo

The Mondo is a form that comes from the Zen practice of rapid question-answer between master and student. Frequently a two-stanza poem intended for two authors where one asks a question in the first stanza and the other answers in the second stanza, the answer reflecting the spirit of Zen through meditation and taking an understanding from nature. The stanza structure is broken down into three lines, totaling nineteen syllables or less, frequently in 5-7-7 syllable structure.

(Because trying to add in examples is next to impossible, seriously time-consuming, and how I lost the journal at least once before, they will be added in the future once I have at least the text done and submitted. Then I will see if I can edit and add to the journal after it's been posted. Seriously, I can either put a huge example one per line since thumbs are now the size of grapefruits, or I am forced to fave every example into my personal gallery for group use, as the ONLY options of adding literature in multiples is to search ALL of Eclipse DA, MY personal gallery, or MY favorites folders--no group folders option, which I don't understand why since I have to submit this journal for the group through the group).

Hello everyone!  Hi!  OneWithTheStars here and welcome to ProjectDFC's 2020 installment of May Mixup Madness!
(I am also sad that, even though I don't do much formatting with journals, this is likely the last one for ProjectDFC that will be implementing them before the conversion to Eclipse...)

MAY MIXUP MADNESS (MMM)

We love to mix it up a little (or perhaps a lot) here at ProjectDFC.  May is the designated month where we get to mix it up with inspiration from another's works!  Borrowing just might be what all those that participated in NaPoWriMo need after the daily poetry writing for a month.  I think I've fainted.

What we do for this month is follow a specific poetic structure called the Cento.  The Cento is a form that is essentially borrowed.  The goal is to take lines/lyrics from the poetry/songs of another and reconstruct them into an order to create a whole new poem or song.

Step 1

CHOOSE YOUR INSPIRATION: Pick a single lyricist (music artist, musician, or group band) or poet (famous or DA friend) to use their works.

Step 2

FIND YOUR LINES: Pick a SINGLE line from each song's lyrics or series of poems.  This means if you want an eight-line poem, you must choose a single line from each of eight songs or each of eight poems.  The number of lines for your Centro are unlimited--you can choose as many or as few works to incorporate into it.

Step 3

STITCH YOUR CENTO: Now that you have your lines chosen, rearrange them into an order to create a whole new work.  You may have to go back and forth in your inspiration's songs/poems to find different lines to create your poem--I seem to have to anyway.  Sweating a little...

Need more inspiration?  Here are some great examples written by our members from last year's MMM:
<da:thumb id="798918255"/> simply spellboundThrough dogwood trees in the twilight walking,
I am taking my sweet time
and as the light begins to shift...
we are air and memoirs-
we are magic in the moment-
and I swear that this world has never been brighter.
You made me paper cranes
with drunken precision
and that was all that really mattered.
You rattle my walls and shake my bones.
You are Neptune.
I hold my breath, but you keep breathing.
Sometimes I feel the wind is a presence-
it keeps us connected.
Us two, a couplet, sweet rhythm and rhyme,
and vibrant blues.
Your eyes are lockets
of love and affection.
belladonna riddlesbelladonna riddles me so

across homes, across hearts
never defined from the start)

tell me the names of the ones you love,
just believe (in) me, for once
a hostage- not a partner,
like a comfort, like a curse
“scream somewhere else”
you say with a snarl,
there’s teeth marks on your lips,
steel beneath your fingertips
sneaking in was easy enough,
until i started screaming about elephants
and that's way less metaphorical than it might seem-
she's a friend of yours, a friend
a fucking ghost and honey
you're only human:
you cannot grasp

creaking joints, puckered and purpling
it's what you do-
as if escape is necessary

I had withdrawn in forest, and my song:
She’s glad her simple worsted grey,
But he sighed upon the sill;
Grim giving to do over for them both.
My little horse must think it queer
And tries once—twice—and thrice if I be there;
Behind light words that tease and flout:
‘Come out! Come out!’—
With mischievous, vagrant, seraphic look,
That could take me from beside you ,,
How countlessly they congregate,
With the breath of many flowers,—
A heartfelt prayer for the poor of God.
All simply in the springing of the year.
