Literature Text

My little human, come with me once more;
I have another world for us to explore.
This time, however, it’s galaxies away,
just step through the dimensional doorway…

I watch your eyes focus intently on mine,
uncertainty abound, but you cross the line.
Through the gateway of rippling energy,
you timidly step through, reaching for me.

With a smile, I grasp your outstretched hand,
drawing you close, side by side we stand.
Whispering softly, I draw your gaze forward
and to the vast landscape that I point toward.

The cosmic city rises against a backdrop of mountains,
where between constructs flow luscious water fountains.
Wide with wonder, I watch your eyes roam;
this, my darling, is the world I call home.

Networks of metallic buildings reach to the sky
while many intricate hovercrafts zip on by.
You wholly enraptured by the futuristic scene,
I pull you forward, for there’s much to be seen.

Moving through the others, curious eyes fall on you
as I lead you to my hoverpad, room for just two.
Grasping the bar by the controls, I ask you follow my lead
just before we take off, traversing through the air at top speed.

Currents of air play in your hair as they brush by your face
while you close your eyes and smile, enjoying the fast pace.
You laugh with delight as your stress melts completely
and my heart grows alight, seeing you so happy.

All too soon, we reach our intended destination
located at the heart of my species’ fair nation.
Disembarking the craft, we arrive in the great square
laid before the fortress palace; this is the imperial lair.

Your eyes carefully trace along its intricate designs,
a melding of metal and stone, decorated with carved lines.
I watch on with a smile as you marvel at its architecture
for after all, I muse, I designed this noble structure.

Taking your hand in mine once more, I lead the way,
up the great stairs, then open the vast entranceway.
Light floods over us as we make our way in,
I anxious to show you all that is contained within.

Through marble corridors, we tour the chambers and rooms—
from the library with shelves collecting tomes and volumes,
then the grand hall overflowing with music and fine arts,
to the observation chamber comprised of technological parts.

From the interior garden with lush vegetation and flowers,
to the basement chamber that regulates and powers
all of the vital functions that keep the lair operating,
even the most mundane things you find fascinating.

It fills me with excitement to see your curiosity,
but there is one more place I wish for you to see.
Taking your hand, we venture into seclusion,
down the quiet hallway to escape unwanted intrusion.

While I may be a noble of unparalleled integrity,
I long off this pedestal you place me on reverently.
Drawing you close as we approach one final door,
keen on some quality time with the one I adore.

My Bush Ballad for the 2017 Poetry Forms Challenge: March/April Edition hosted by :iconmy-soul-bleeds-ink:.  A sequel, if you will, to Journey to Atlantis, as it consists of the same characters and I could only think of them when presented this form again, though I am dissatisfied with parts of it, particularly the end stanzas that I spent the majority of the week on trying to carve out.  One just needs to call it done sometimes and maybe revisit it later if an idea for improvement presents itself.  The wit and adventure are pretty obvious, but the danger and humor are also there, just as excessively subtle undertones.  Shrug

The Bush Ballad is a form arranged into unlimited quatrains with a rhyme scheme of either abab or aabb (I chose the latter here).  There is no meter or syllable count, but a song-like quality needs to be present.  With a story or epic quality to it, there should be a combination of wit and adventure present, as well as humor and danger coexisting.
